York Environment Week(s) is back for a fifth year
Following the success of 2023, when we hosted a wider range of events than ever before, York Environment Weeks (YEWs) is back for its fifth year. This year, the festival of green events will be spread over four weeks, from 14th September to 12th October, providing even more opportunities to celebrate and stand up for the environment.
YEWs24 is inviting community groups, businesses and other organisations - such as schools, universities, trade unions, libraries, arts organisations, housing associations and faith groups - to share and discuss their environmental actions.
How Can I Get Involved?
Any groups who are interested in hosting an event in YEWs24 can find out more and submit an application through our website or get in touch with the festival’s team of volunteers (info@yorkenvironmentweek.org.uk). Groups organise and host their own events, offering them for free to all, though many ask for donations. We believe that everyone can be involved in engaging with environmental issues and so we encourage a wide range of organisations to contribute. Last year’s festival included everything from spoken word and yoga to events focused on the role of trade unions in the environmental movement, and the medical and social impact of climate change.
Another great way to get involved is to print the call for events poster and share it with your family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours - the more the merrier! We want to encourage everyone to get involved in York Environment Weeks 2024.
What's Different This Year?
For the first time, in partnership with York Climate Commission, YEWs24 will include a ‘festival within a festival’ of York Opens Green Spaces (YOGS) on the weekends of 28-29th September and 5-6th October. This is a chance to celebrate all the organisations that are protecting and enhancing green spaces around the city. Any groups who are involved in this kind of work are invited to join in.
We encourage everyone who cares about the environment in York to put the dates in their diary, submit events for the festival, and spread the word across their networks. We can't wait to promote some wonderful events!
